22/03/2016

Dear Fencers & Clubs,

Firstly, I would like to welcome you to the 2016 season.

The Academy Youth Cup (AYC) was originally launched to fill a gap in the National Calendar. When that gap was filled by others in the fencing community we assessed the relevance of the AYC. Based on feedback from coaches, clubs and parents,  we made significant changes which reinvented the AYC. That was a key junction in the history of the AYC.

For similar reasons, today we arrive at that junction, one more time. Today there are many competitions for children in London, the South East and some similar formats.

We are very proud of what we have contributed to the fencing community. But this comes with a great deal of effort from a large number of volunteers. Therefore, we have to make sure that this is still making a difference.

Therefore, once again we stop to assess  the relevance of the AYC. So the questions before us are:

1.      Is the AYC relevant today?
2.      Are we making a difference?
3.      Are we filling a gap?
4.      Where do we go from here?

This is where we turn to the fencing community for feedback as we make this appeal. Your feedback will guide the future of the AYC. Your feedback can determine the shape and the structure of the AYC.

We look forward to hearing back from you with any comments or suggestions. Please circulate this amongst the fencing community.

Best Regards

Dear Fencers & Clubs,

In the last two weeks we have had many requests from parents and from volunteers on the event team to change the date for the upcoming AYC on the 5th of April 2015. As you know we always listen and we try do what we can. Therefore, we have decided to cancel the Easter date and we will replace it with another date in October. We are waiting for final confirmation from the venue and we will announce the new replacement date.

The next AYC date will be Sunday 28th June. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Best Regards

Please be aware that we have a new timetable this year. As you all know we also always publish our finish time and we stick to it. Last year we finished just ahead of time in every event in each of the four competitions. We are confident that we can achieve the same on time finish as published this year.

01 May 2012

Dear All,

Due to the fact that British Fencing changed the date of the Senior National Championships midyear, which made it clash with the published date for The Academy Awards 2011, we had to consider our position for the benefit of the fencers.

After careful consideration, the Academy committee decided to postpone the Academy Awards to another date. Duly the Academy Youth Cup team decided the following:

The Academy Youth Cup DT team has decided to cancel the cash prize Awards ceremony for 2011 and make its annual prize money presentations at the next Academy Youth Cup competition on the 24th of March. The dates for 2012 have been confirmed and will be published shortly.

We apologise to all the fencers for this, but this is the tax we pay for being organised with dates one year ahead and we do get affected when the rest of the fencing world is not.

We wish you all enjoyable holidays and a Happy New Year.
